come what may...

the song is from the movie Moulin Rouge. The montage accompanying it are scenes from the German soap opera Verboten Liebe [Forbidden Love] that is taking the internet, English speaking countries and Europe by storm, specifically the story line of Oliver and Christian, known to all as Ollian.

Come What May
sung by Nicole Kidman & Ewan McGregor
composed by David Baerwal
from Moulin Rouge

Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
Want to vanish inside your kiss
Everyday I love you more and more
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sings
Telling me to give you everything
Seasons may change winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you

And there's no mountain too high no river too wide
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather and stars may collide
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day
Oh come what may, come what may
I will love you

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place...

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day.

it is not only the story of Ollian that is interesting; the entire show has become a must see in Germany and there are many of the other characters that interact with Christian and Oliver on the program; but it is their storyline that has captured people's hearts and interest.

you can catch up on most of the story here through a nonstop capture and then catch new episodes here as they are posted with English subtitles. you will become hooked...

Verboten Liebe and Ollian has taken such a hold in English speaking countries that next week there is a live "virtual" online chat with Thor Schölermann (Christian) and Jo Weil (Oliver) next Tuesday, September 30th. you have to sign up to be part. if you're interested go to Meet Thore Schölermann and Jo Weil.

the sisters of mercy...

The Sisters of Mercy
written & sung by
Leonard Cohen
visual from the movie
McCabe & Mrs. Miller

The Sisters of Mercy
Oh the sisters of mercy, they are not departed or gone.
They were waiting for me when I thought that I just can't go on.
And they brought me their comfort and later they brought me this song.
Oh I hope you run into them, you who've been travelling so long.

Yes you who must leave everything that you cannot control.
It begins with your family, but soon it comes around to your soul.
Well I've been where you're hanging, I think I can see how you're pinned:
When you're not feeling holy, your loneliness says that you've sinned.

Well they lay down beside me, I made my confession to them.
They touched both my eyes and I touched the dew on their hem.
If your life is a leaf that the seasons tear off and condemn
they will bind you with love that is graceful and green as a stem.

When I left they were sleeping, I hope you run into them soon.
Don't turn on the lights, you can read their address by the moon.
And you won't make me jealous if I hear that they sweetened your night:
We weren't lovers like that and besides it would still be all right,
We weren't lovers like that and besides it would still be all right.

i was first introduced to this song by the Judy Collins version many years ago. it's a haunting melody and lyric. in the version above, played and sung by Leonard Cohen, if you listen carefully, you will hear riffs from what i consider his consummate song - Suzanne. here's a really interesting video that i found of the song

happy birthday, Gloria...

wow, i didn't realize it has been so long since i posted. life has been really busy. i haven't even done a lot of posts over at the main site.

anyway, this song has always been one of my favorites. it actually helped me through a major break-up when it first came out. after the lyric you're going to find a special version of it. i used it once at the beginning of the school year at a workshop with my teachers. they loved it.

happy birthday, Gloria Gaynor...

I Will Survive
sung by Gloria Gaynor

First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
without you by my side
But I spent so many nights
thinking how you did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to carry on
and so you're back
from outer space
I just walked in to find you here
with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed my stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second
you'd be back to bother me

Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
'cause you're not welcome anymore
weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
you think I'd crumble
you think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive

It took all the strength I had
not to fall apart
kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart
and I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
Now I hold my head up high
and you see me
somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person
still in love with you
and so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
now I'm saving all my loving
for someone who's loving me
